Cheers for the link. Haha, spend a night reading my five or so reviews, that's a good one. One question, what quality are the albums? Flac, or 320, or what?

One question, what quality are the albums? Flac, or 320, or what? Hey, I know you'll dig the msuic to whatever degree, but if anything other than top-notch recording and conversion bothers you, you may be slightly disappointed. They're all fairly old vinyl recordings, so they have never been remastered...hell, most of them have never even been released on CD. I've done a touch of hiss and pop removal, LameEnc, 128 kbps.

*** 7/07/08 Jane's Addiction - Ritual De Lo Habitual (CD) Very nice funk/psych rock from the king of late 80's/early 90's alternate rock. Verdict - Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon (Digital) Slightly overrated, but still good. Money and Brain Damage the most enjoyable songs for me. Verdict - The Orb - U.F.Orb (CD) Enjoyable ambient dance from the kings of... ambient dance. More a watery textured album compared with the spacier Adventures. Verdict -

*** 8/7/08 Radiohead - OK Computer Good album, but very overrated. My main problem with it is that I feel they were trying to force emotion, rather then letting it flow naturally, like in Rock Bottom. Still, consistent and Paranoid Android! Verdict - Abakus - That Much Closer to the Sun The best downtempo album I've ever heard. Verdict -

*** 10/7/08 The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland (CD) How does the title 'one of the best albums of the late 60's' grab you? Verdict - The Velvet Underground and Nico - The Velvet Underground and Nico (CD) It's obviously one of the most influential albums ever, and is also not afraid to explore taboo subjects and use completely un-mainstream instruments (viola), which is I guess why it's so influential. Some of the songs are too long for my tastes, though. Verdict -

Hey, ACAI. This thread is usually far beyond the scope of my limited obscure-music knowledge, but I thought I'd chime in and agree that Electric Ladyland is Jimi's finest effort. My particular favorite track is "1983... (A Merman I Should Turn to Be)".

I actually think I haven't been listening to enough obscure stuff! ;D
I really like the start of 1983, but IMO it sort of goes downhill into complete wankery from there. But most of Hendrix's later stuff is complete wankery, so....
I'd have to think my favourite song from the album is Rainy Day, Dream Away. It's so... jazzy and chilled.

*** 11/7/08 Love - The Forever Changes Concert (CD) Sounds a helluva lot like the original album, which is a good thing. Verdict - Faust - Faust (CD) Very hard to describe, and listen to, experimental krautrock sound collage. Verdict - Devo - Q: Are We Not Men A: We Are Devo! Very enjoyable new wave/post punk. Verdict -

*** 12/7/08 Butthole Surfers - Psychic... Powerless... Another Man's Sac (CD) I really did like this slice of noise punk, and a couple of songs jumped out at me. Needs a relisten. Verdict - Various Artists - White Lace & Strange - Heavy Psych and Power Fuzz From the USA 68-72 (CD) What it says on the tin, a compilation of heavy psychedelica from 68 through 72. Not usually a big fan of compilations, but this one wasn't too bad. Verdict - The Ramones - Loco Live (CD) Passable live CD. Verdict -

*** 13/7/08 Faith No More - Angel Dust (CD) Gets a little better each time I listen, but one or two of the heavy metaller (hence terrible) songs ruin the rest for me. Verdict - The Doors - Strange Days (CD) I certainly enjoyed this more then last time. Still not up to their self-titled though. Verdict - Fishbone - Truth & Soul (Digital) Groovy funk rock. Verdict -

Honestly, I can't recall specifically what songs you're talking about. I tend to listen to this cd from start to finish, and other than one or two songs, I couldn't even tell you any titles. I think the cd is amazing.

If I wasn;t knee deep in My Dying Bride, Moonsorrow and Roky Erickson at the moment, I'd throw that disk in for a listen... ...but who can find the time...hell, I'll drop on of them and stick it in. "Stick it in." That's what she said.

I've been listening to his stuff for many years, most recently 'I Think of Demons'. Naturally, a 13th Floor Elevators album is never far from my reach, one of the best bands ever.

*** 16/7/08 Suicide - Suicide (Digital) Meh. Sure, it's depressing and gloomy, but enjoyable? Not very. Verdict - Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene (Digital) Brilliant, and I can't believe it was done in the 70's. A giant influence on later day EDM, especially ambient. Verdict - Lisa Germano - Geek the Girl (Digital) I really enjoyed this weird goth rock/pop/whatever. Verdict -

*** 17/7/08 Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables (Digital) The guys voice is hilarious. And a hardcore/punk band covered Viva Las Vegas. Verdict - The Exploding Hearts - Guitar Romantic (Digital) Enjoyable power pop/punk. Nice short album too. Verdict - Clutchy Hopkins - Walking Backwards (Digital) A really nice mix of jazz, hip hop, and classic blues. Verdict -

*** 18/7/08 Wire - Pink Flag (Digital) Verdict - MC5 - Back in the USA (Digital) A lot different to Kick Out the Jams. Half the songs have piano, and the singers voice has too much stuff done to it. Verdict - John Coltrane - A Love Supreme (Digital) It's jazz. Verdict - King Crimson - Lark's Tongues in Aspic (Digital) It's like a heavier and somehow wankier version of In the Court of the Crimson King. Still good. Verdict - Beethoven - 9th Symphony (Digital) See, I know it's considered one of the greatest musical works of all time, but much like A Love Supreme, I have no other knowledge of the genre, so I have nothing to compare it to. Verdict -

Wire - Pink Flag (Digital) Verdict - Punk through the eyes of middle-class art students. It's a good album, but nowhere near as good as their disorientating post-punk albums 'Chairs Missing' or '154'.
