Anyone else read the three Ring books, Ring, Spiral and Loop?
Loop was slightly disappointing, but Spiral is my favourite first-time read.

Yeah, the twist in Loop was good, but I did see it coming, and that was it, the entire book was the twist. I dunno, I was disappointed at the end.

To be honest... they all disappointed me. I didn't finish 'Loop' and I found the translations to be flat (but I've read other books by Koji Suzuki... and they all sucked rather bad). Hell, Loop was a third rate cyberpunk novel (I've read Gibson and Sterling. Didn't need to finish a poor rip off), or a totally worthless waste of time (No, really. I had a friend tell me it was 'post modern'. I told him to go look up what that means and than hang himself for stupidity). The Ring was better as a movie (sorry, but many of the parts that were cut... should have. Half the book was pointless.) Spiral was more predictable than th average Japanese mystery novel. Let's face it the whole series was just full of rip offs, unoriginal thoughts, and not only a shit translation, but a shit original text. The only reason anyone buys the books is because of the shit movies. They aren't only insultingly vapid, but anyone that's read any genre fiction shouldn't find anything new or interesting in them. Japanese literature died with Mishima, everything since than is usually either a bad 'pulp' rip off or just stolen from US & UK sci fi/ horror authors.

Well, I know nothing about Japanese or even English literature, so I'll have to make your word on that. I did enjoy Spiral though, but couldn't even finish the movie.
