He kicks ass.
I don't like his full blown fantasy books as much, but Gailee, the Damnation Game and Weaveworld were enjoyable, as was the Books of Blood.

I like some of Barker's work, but for me I think the endings of a lot of his longer books are a let-down. I think he's actually better when it comes to short stories, his Books of Blood collections are great.
I particularly liked Cabal, The Thief of Always, The Great and Secret Show and The Damnation Game. I'm itching to read his reported forthcoming book, The Scarlet Gospels, which is supposed to be set in the Cenobite world from The Hellbound Heart but also have Harry D'Armour in it...now that's a Barker fanboy match-up made in heaven... Gotta say, though, I've found some of his recent novels to be absolute self-indulgent crap, Coldheart Canyon and Sacrament were dire.

barker was my introduction to horror fiction.. started reading him based on fango's recommendations.. i'd have the books of blood on the schoolbus, just reading away..
i'm still the only person i've met that would KILL to see a movie version of 'the inhuman condition'.. i absolutely loved the story..
his novels were exceptional as well, but i wasn't as fond of them as i was his shorts ('imajica' and 'the thief of always' being the exceptions).. some writers perfect a certain style and venture off, often not capturing the same feel.. but, as an artist, they have to expand.. and, certianly, his novels are better than most i've read in the similar medium..
very similar to his c.b. counterpart.. buk's poems were the forte and the novels were good, just not up to snuff..
i've lost touch with horror fiction in print over the last few years, however, as i tend have a politically driven focus in my readings.. but i'll be reading his next one, no doubt..
anyone else notice that for some inexplicable reason he tended to fall off at the same time his bio starting stating 'he and his partner live in...' rather than 'he and his wife live in..' ?

I sorta enjoyed both Coldheart Canyon and Sacrament, but yeah, he did tail off a bit. I still think I like twist-ahoy Dean Kootnz more though.

I don't think I have ever read any of his longer books... The Books of Blood were the shit though! I really really liked them. Too bad I haven't been able to find any other writing by him over here. I'm kinda excited over The Hellbound Heart, which sounds pretty cool.
