It's always good to know what you dummies are into. And making lists is fun! So put your 5 favourite albums. Either an all-time list or what you're into now.
1. Viv Akauldren - 'I'll Call You Sometime' Hailing from Detroit in the mid to late 80s, VA are the most criminally neglected band ever. They made 4 albums of the finest psychedelic punk/space rock. This is their finest.
2. Medusa Cyclone - 'Mr Devil' Rising from the ashes of Viv Akauldren, Medusa Cyclone whipped up a wonderful psychedelic storm on this album. Hunt it down or your life means nothing.
3. Amon Duul 2 - 'Phallus Dei' Maybe the purest Krautrock album ever. Sounds like nothing before or after. Influenced by Eastern magic, Germanic mythology, and LSD. Nuff said.
4. Univers Zero - 'Heresie' I mentioned this in another thread here. If you like the atmosphere of HPLovecraft's writings, then you like this band. The most sinister album ever.
5. A.R.Kane - '69' Beautiful dub/pop music filtered through a druggy sexdream. I can't make it any clearer than that.

I've come close to picking up the Amon Duul 2 album a few times, now it's definitely next time.
This is from another page I'm working on, hence why some have lots of descriptions, and others none. If you want to know more about an album, just ask.
Anyway, I can't choose just 5, so here are the top whatever, in no order:
The Doors - The Doors
Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime
Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom
Slint - Spiderland
Electric Six - Fire
I don’t listen to much modern music, but Electric Six are one band that rocks my socks off, with their mishmash of rock, pop, disco and EDM perfectly formed on their debut album Fire.
Fire is fun personified. Nothing more, nothing less. Every song is catchy, rocking, and will make you want to dance, jump around, singing “FIRE IN THE… TACO BELL”.
It’s hard to pick out what’s wrong with Fire. The guitars are brilliant, the bassing is funky, the drumming hard, and the vocals…. Dick Valentine’s voice is hilarious. All the falsetto singing and witty and sometimes downright childish lyrics you can handle. I mean, one of the songs is called Naked Pictures…. Of Your Mother!
This is what all pop rock should be like. I picked this up really cheap on holiday, and I’m extremely glad that I did.
One Hot Minute - Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Chili’s are my favourite band, due to a great back catalogue of albums, as well as what I consider their peak; One Hot Minute.
Now, this album is unloved by most, even hardcore RHCP fans (who should be hating their recent crap instead, but I digress). Why? Because it “deviates too much from what they were being before”, or “Dave Navarro doesn’t fit the band”. Now that is totally unfounded, because One Hot Minute is a great album, in fact, probably their best.
The thing I like most about OHM is the diversity in the song styles. Several sub genres of rock are represented, from psychedelic (Warped, Deep Kick), to hard rock (Coffee Shop), to the standard Chilli’s funk (Aeroplane, Walkabout). Hell, they even throw in some awesome ballads, which I usually abhor (Tearjerker, Transcending). And of course, all are done extremely well, and the drumming is a feature, showing what a talented drummer Chad Smith is.
This is one album I can never get sick of, or lose interest in. I must have heard it nigh on 100 times at least, and it still sounds as good as the first time. Get OHM to see what great things the Chili’s were up to before John Frusciante ruined the band.
Northern Exposure – Sasha & Digweed
The two discs are perfect in every way, in different ways. With Disc 1, it's the constant meandering, the jungle sounds, the calm aura, held together by brilliantly unobtrusive breaks. The songs invoke a feeling of nature, a glide through a misty forest at night, a dip in a cool stream, a flight through a primitive Earth Eden.
While Disc 2 isn't as breathtaking as Disc 1, it is somehow mixed even more masterly. If Disc 1 is the wild power of nature at its greatest, Disc 2 is a tale of the corruption of man. I can almost sense the melancholy in "Sound System", as man enters the world, and starts to become the dominant force of the planet. The next few songs have a much more malicious edge as such, and as the CD goes on, we get a view of the destroyed environment ("Heliopolis" remix) and a look into the progression into outer space ("Plan 94"), before ending up in the technological future ("Dark and Long"). Evolution documented in two CDs of bliss.
Which songs are my favourites? They are all extremely good, but Dark and Long, Out of Body Experience and These Waves are the stand-outs for me. While Northern Exposure is both hard to find and expensive (I still don't have a copy), I implore you to pick up a copy. You'll thank me later.

You can't really go wrong with any Amon Duul 2 album up to and including 'Viva La Trance'. My favourite Krautrock band.
Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom. I listened to this a hell of a lot a few years ago. It's a a special album. You may know this but just prior to making the album, Robert Wyatt fell from a high window and ended up in a wheelchair. He wrote a lot of it in Venice while his wife was working on Nic Roeg's 'Don't Look Now'. It's obviously the music that make it a classic, but these circumstances definitely contribute to the haunting and evocative feel of the album.
Spiderland - Slint. Great album. Very dark.
The Doors debut - It's been a long time since I listened to this - 20 years or so to be exact. Good album, although I remember prefering 'Strange Days'. You bringing it up has made me want to revisit their stuff.
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - I've never liked one thing by them. I always feel like they're trying to push their cocks into my face.

I've only really got into Faust and Neu! on the Krautrock side of things, so Amon Duul is next. I feel exactly the same way about Rock Bottom, if I didn't know about his 'incident', perhaps it wouldn't be as powerful. Spiderland is brilliant, and has enough diversity to not get sick of it quickly. In fact, I only like stuff that has nothing that sounds like it (E6, early-mid Chilis, FNM, Ramones). One Hot Minute falls into this category, as I asked a while ago on the music board for other albums like it, and only got Incubus and Jane's Addiction, which aren't really like it. With the Doors, I do have Strange Days as well, but it has nothing as good as the majority of most of the songs on The Doors IMO. It's a shame that no one has heard Northern Exposure, because it is easily the best EDM album, but it was made for listening, not dancing. And btw, are these Viv Akauldren guys rare. Nothing is showing up on Soulseek, which is strange.

If you don't mind dling big files, I'll send a couple of Viv Akauldren albums your way through mailbigfile.com. They're hard to get hold of as, out of the four albums they released, only one has been rereleased on CD. Lucky for me, I have them all on vinyl, sparklingly converted to mp3. Let me know your e-mail adress if you're interested.

Consider it done, ACAI.
On a sidenote, doesn't anyone else have any favourite albums? C'mon, list them, or I'll have to assume that all of your top 5s consist of nothing but The Cunt Matthews Band. Sorry, did I say 'cunt'? I meant to say 'Dave'.

Of course. But only the songs I like. I don't think I should buy a whole CD from an artist who has only 1 song I like. So I download. Limewire supposedly gives your computer viruses, but it's not that bad. My friend's computer got a virus from a porn site.

Yeah, I've got a friend who's had 2 harddrives go bananas from dling from P2P sites like Limewire and Emule. I use them as a last resort. Blogs run by fans of whatever the blog is about are a decent place to dl music from, I use them quite a bit when I can't buy, beg, borrow, or steal. Mainly good for rare stuff though.

Limewire supposedly gives your computer viruses, but it's not that bad. My friend's computer got a virus from a porn site. I use Frostwire and I think it's fairly safe if you just get songs. The trouble lies in trying to get programs and other executable files.

Well, in terms of consistent listenability (as in the entire album, not just a majority of the songs), I'd have to go with (no order, and much more than five):
--Modest Mouse, "Good News For People Who Love Bad News" --George Harrison, "All Things Must Pass" --Pink Floyd, "Dark Side of the Moon" --Daft Punk, "Discovery" --Jamie Lidell, "Jim" --L'Arc-en-ciel, "Kiss" --Jay McShann, "Confessin' The Blues" --The Clash, "London Calling" --The Ramones, "Rocket to Russia" --Elsinore, "Nothing for Design" --Caulfield & The Magic, "House Painters" --Gnarls Barkley, "The Odd Couple" --Ryan Groff, "People in the Midwest" --The Beach Boys, "Pet Sounds" --Chromeo, "She's In Control" --Peter Gabriel, "So" --Tegan and Sara, "So Jealous" --Le Tigre, "This Island" --Spinal Tap, "This Is Spinal Tap" --Depeche Mode, "Violator"
Those, to me, are kind of the 'best of the best' in my collection. They're the 'go-to' CDs for long car rides, too, when I've forgotten to make mix CDs.

Only five. Wow. I can easily narrow down to ten to fifteen, but five...yikes. But I'll try. These aren't really in any order by the way...
1. Judas Priest--Hero Hero. Flat out my most listened to album ever. There is nothing I dislike about it. I would certainly rate it my favorite.
2. Novembers Doom--Pale Haunt Departure . When I bought this in 2005 I was blown away by it. And I still am. Best release of the century so far.
3. Mercyful Fate--Melissa. The best King or Fate album, and near perfect.
4. Type O Negative--Either Life is Killing Me or Bloody Kisses. I can never decide which is better, and I can't for the life of me leave either of them off this list!
5. Danzig--Lucifuge or 4. Same situation as the TON situation. I can't decide which one to choose, but both are fantabulous and have to be here!
Almost making the list:
My Dying Bride--Angel and the Dark River or Line of Deathless Kings. Both are great in their own way.
Motorhead--Overkill. My fav Motorhead album with two of their coolest tunes: Overkill and (I Won't) Pay Your Price
Judas Priest--Stained Class. Fantastic work. The definitive album from them before they went mainstream.
Black Sabbath--Black Sabbath or Sabbatoge both are superb.
Faith No More--Angel Dust. I barely like the band, but the album is great!
Life of Agony--River Runs Red. Everyone of their albums were different from each other, but this one has so many standouts.
Misfits--Legacy of Brutality. It's hard to pick a single Misfits album, but this one has so many great songs, that it made the cut over Earth AD or Walk Among Us.
Black Sabbath--Live Evil--I can credit this double record (yes, I bought it on record) as the turning point to my love affair with metal. Before this I was into whatever Muchmusic and the radio spoon fed me.
Honorable mentions to:
Burzum--Filosofem. I can't stand one track from it so its to bad that one track is 50% of the cd. Otherwise it would be on a top ten list.
Jethro Tull--Heavy Horses, Minstrel in the Gallery, Songs From the Wood, Stand Up and Benefit. Each in their own way are amazing and breathtaking, but to pick a favorite, one over another, is downright impossible to me. Tull was cursed with a tremendous amount of good material over a ten year period.
