The quite, shy, bookish and all around good girl Sarah (Debra Blee) is given her Uncle Carl’s beach house for the summer. She invites her two wild and promiscuous friends Ginger (Val Kline) and Ducky (Jeana Tomasina) to giver her some company. But soon those two are inviting people over to have a party against Uncle Carl’s wishes. At first Sarah avoids all the sin and debauchery, but soon she too joins in all the fun. Meanwhile an overzealous drug-enforcement officer attempts to stop a shipment of marijuana from reaching the shore.
“The Beach Girls” is a very silly, but good natured movie that attempts to handle the subject matter with a lot more class that it’s ilk. Unfortunately that doesn’t mean it’s very good. It starts out well with a nice and lively pace and plenty of fun beach music as the score. It also has some great (if juvenile) sight gags and the three leads are all very beautiful girls. Midway though the movie though it runs into a lot of pacing problems and the sight gags considerably drop off in both number and quality. After meandering around for a while it picks up again for the last 15 to 20 minuets and once again becomes a solid coming of age teen sex comedy. To bad the opening and ending aren’t enough to save this movie as a whole. It does feature some naked breasts but none the less still very lacking in that regard. It’s a real shame to because “The Beach Girls” has all the makings of a good sex comedy, beautiful girls, a decent plot, a good score, a generally good natured feel and overzealous drug agents but director Bud Townsend just can’t bring all these elements together into a good movie.
