Well, we've had a couple of topics about some comic book adaptations, so thought I'd get a poll going...and a fairly detailed one at that... From the big budget to the plain ridiculous, which comic book movie adaptation floats your boat? EDIT: Dammit, I forgot Tank Girl! I'm gonna get lynched for sure!

Well I TRIED to vote, it said something like error. Anyway, I voted for Tim Burton's Batman movies. They might not be carbon copies of the comics and changed many things around, but I love them! They're my comfort movies.

They're my comfort movies. You broke my poll! j/k I have no idea what's up with that ridiculous thing...and after I spent all that time wracking my brains for all the comic book movies I've seen over the years... haha Oh well...just can't get the staff these days... *tsk* Great choice there, darksidegirl26. I love those Tim Burton movies too, especially Batman Returns which would probably get my vote (if this bloody thing would ever care to begin working...haha). I've been a huge Batfan since I was a kid and loved the comics, but I'm not one of these puritanical sorts who gets all annoyed just because of the alterations on the mythos. I think Returns is fun, has two great villains in DeVito and Pfeiffer, a better turn for Keaton's Batman (who was overshadowed by Nicholson's Joker in the first movie) and it's visually gorgeous, I love the way they accentuated the gothic nature of the character by going back to the type of expressionist imagery found in those early German silent horror movies. Oh, and Chris Walken was on top barking-mad form.

Batman Begins of course, but I should have voted for Howard the Duck damnit! That movie is way underrated! [/sarcasm]

sigh... This is the third time I've tried to post this... keeps telling me errors are accruing... or recurring. Anyway I'm going with The Crow. While I've enjoyed Burton's and Nolan's Batmans, and the X-Men flicks (ok, 3 was absolute shit), and Blade 2 and Hellboy (and hated most of the others... Really how did Raimi fuck up Spider-Man so bad all 3 times? No really I wanna know. And will there ever be an even semi-decent movie based on Alan Moore's books [and please don't tell me that V for Vendetta was good]) The Crow was the only one that didn't just stay true to the source, it's the only one that surpassed it. Proyas did a fantastic job. EDIT: You also forgot 'Constantine'... another one based on one of Moore's characters... and again was totally fucked up. Really, why do it if your going to totally change it? No really... someone please explain.

Oh, and Chris Walken was on top barking-mad form. I'm always breaking something it never fails. I'm exactly like you, I grew up loving the batman franchise (movies, comics, etc.). And like yourself, Batman Returns is also my favorite. I'm not one of those puritan batman fans. Personality, I think they're little batty (haha, no pun intended) when it comes to something being off or changed. I like variety; that's why I enjoyed each batman flick (yes, even to a certain degree, Batman and Robin) cause they each bring something different to the batman myth, which I like. But nothing could ever top Batman Returns, IMO. The characters, the set (Oh how I love the sets), the music, dark atmosphere. And Michelle Pfeffier....I would go gay for her in this movie.

I couldn't pick a favourite, but one thing I do know - I'd love to see someone have a go at Peter Milligan's work. Preferably 'Shade the Changing Man' or 'Enigma', both classics and up there with Alan Moore's work imo. 'Rogan Gosh' was also great, a psychedelic kick in the frontal lobe.

I tried to vote but it wouldn't let me. Anyway, my choice was going to be "V for Vendetta." I thought the Wachowskis did a bang up job.

From that list, Sin City.
Some that weren't listed but are still gravy, Road to Perdition, A History of Violence, 300, and the Lone Wolf and Cub series.

Batman Begins. Hands down. What a movie. Christian Bale is the best Batman so far. Fuckin amazing actor. I loved Nolan's vision of Gotham. Can't wait for the new one, Ledger looks the shit as the Joker. That character should be scary, psychotic, evil. I'm a comic geek and love the character, he's my fave comic villain, and I'm hoping he's portrayed correctly this time round.

Hmm, rather than just admit I forgot them, can I instead just point out it wouldn't let me have any more possible choices to vote for? ;D I thought A History of Violence was great, and enjoyed 300 too, it's a fun if weightless popcorn flick. I've seen Sin City a few times and still can't make up my mind about it, you know. I love some parts of it and the casting was pretty much perfect, but amidst all the glossy CGI I can't help but feel there's something missing, something that made Miller's stories feel meatier and less style over substance. Can't put my finger on it, but it's always there nagging me whenever I watch it. Also, I just can't stand Clive Owen. I've yet to see a movie he's been in where he hasn't been outacted by third supporting couch on the left, and his irritating monotone voiceover in his segment was like a gnat buzzing round my ears. There was no chemistry between him and Rosario Dawson, no matter what the music would try and convince me otherwise. Thankfully Miho's OTT violence and Benicio del Toro made up for it. Can't say I cared at all for Road to Perdition, though. I really couldn't buy Tom Hanks as a hitman and it felt like a very shallow imitation of a gangster movie, to me.

I like Clive Owen, even though he pretty much plays the same guy in every movie. I think he's got sort of a Noir-ish quality to him. And he's fuck ugly. I like actors who ain't pretty. Can't say I cared at all for Road to Perdition, though. I really couldn't buy Tom Hanks as a hitman and it felt like a very shallow imitation of a gangster movie, to me. I give it extra props cuz it's based off of LW&C and it's got Jude Law as one creepy motherfucker.

I refuse to vote for all three Spider-Man movies in one lump, seeing as the second one was the best. I'd likely vote for that as my favorite, but Batman Begins was simply outstanding. It really felt like a Batman film, without the whimsy of the Tim Burton films. Not that I don't like Tim Burton's version of Batman, I just feel that Christopher Nolan really did it right.
And although it's not based on a comic book, Darkman has the perfect comic-book feel to it. That movie kicks ass.

I've always held a special place in my heart for Batman Returns. It's just so dark and the villains are great. Even the ones that aren't the lead characters are awesome. Batman is a great movie too. Jack Nicholson's performance is incredible as The Joker. I'm really excited for The Dark Knight, Ledger's performance looks terrific and this could easily become one of my favorites if it turns out as good the previews look.
