"For anyone interested, there's a Donkey Kong kill screen coming up!"
I just finished watching this and it is so good! It's a documentary about the competition for the highest Donkey Kong score. As far as the "cast" is concerned it almost felt scripted. Good vs. Evil.
Billy Mitchell is such an awesome dickhead.

Great movie. The lengths that some of those goes go to over a high score on a 25 year old video game was awe-inspiring and kinda sad. Bitter sweet, I guess you could call it. A scripted dramatized movie is being made about it. I wish they wouldn't.

Top movie, very enjoyable. Billy Mitchell is a twat, and whatsmore, he's the worst sort of twat - a successful one whose twattishnesh (or twattery, if you like) just serves to make his success harder to take. He's a classic screen villain. This film reminded me of my youth - I was 12 in 1981 when Donkey Kong hit the arcades and I was already a hardened arcade-dwelling video game nut, having been sucked in by Space Invaders a couple of years earlier. Anyone else here remember the dawn of popular videogaming? Good times. I've shamelessly pimped this site before, but if anyone's interested, check this out - 3darcade.mameworld.net/ - I'm a 3D modeller for this project, and it's fucking ace for a trip down memory lane.

Anyone else here remember the dawn of popular videogaming? Good times i was pretty much there was well.. i remember the first arcade we had.. from skeeball and pinpall machines to arcade pong and then the influx of space invaders, right into galaxian.. then on to 1980 which is, almost inarguable, the greatest year in coin-op video game history.. i lived at the arcades back then.. during the summer i remember getting dropped off at west park at magic kingdom (which was the first one in town to have their own specialized tokens and not just use quarters) and then walking up to sky city to play 'berzerk' and 'wizar of wor' (umm, i think i just had an orgasm.. excuse me for a minute) such a beautiful time to be a kid.. and over the years it all became too easy.. just sit at home and play, which never really got my rocks off quite as much.. sure i have the pong system.. then the atari (technically, my first atari was the sears arcade), then colecovision.. then the adam computer.. then nintendo.. and from there its all downhill.. good times though..

Just beautiful. I'm there with you... Yeah, I totally agree. After being obsessed with the likes of Zaxxon, Tempest, Robotron, Gorf, DK etc for years, I lost touch with the whole videogaming thing in about 1984/5, just about the time that music, films, literature, dead-animal porn etc became much more important to me. It was only on discovering the 3DArcade site a few years ago that I started to get back into it, although nothing much beyond retro-gaming, collecting ROMs, and creating 3D enviroments for Golden Era arcades like 'Time-Out Tunnel'....Remember that? Weird though, my 8 year old son has a Nintendo Wii, and I've recently been having fun playing on-line Mario Kart. Life....it's just one big circle.

Life....it's just one big circle. true.. i enjoy playing some games on the newer systems.. i mean, it isn't exactly my thing and i'd rather watch (i'll just keep quiet on other acts of the human species where that also rings true) but i still tend to dig(dug) them.. i do have a shitload of those plug-n-play handheld console games.. i literally played dig-dug one night recently for nearly an hour.. it was insane.. i love those things.. i have the rom files and all but i dunno.. i think i enjoy putting a game in and devoting myself to it for awhile.. i'm sure that sounds 'purty near queer' to most but i'm the same way with movies.. i don't have any movies at all on my computer.. for some reason i think the easy access to them makes me lose a little interest.. luckily that's just me though.. because the roms are fucking awesome for the gamers who crave those legendary titles.. my buddy back home mods all his shit and handed me a psp that mad modded to have the entire nintendo library on it.. playing pro wrestling on the handheld was a masturbatory experience, to say the least.. i was back-brain-kicking all fucking night..

"A scripted dramatized movie is being made about it. I wish they wouldn't. " Damn. I'm not really surprised, though. I'm sure I'll end up checking it out unless, of course, it stars Sean William Scott or some talentless asshole of the like. When I awoke this morning the first thing that popped into my head was the scene of Billy Mitchell blow drying his hair. I'm not sure what that means but it makes me uncomfortable.

Because you can't believe that such a manly mullet exists... and you probably are trying to repress its might sexual pull. I know I could barely stop myself from humping the screen. Look at it... Love it. Anyway... I really enjoyed King of Kong. I have no doubt that the dramatized version will blow. Anyone seen Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the Arcade? It's a doc about the golden age of arcades... I keep hearing about it and my curiosity is aroused (but I'm almost always aroused in one way or another...)

Anyone seen Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the Arcade? It's a doc about the golden age of arcades... I first heard about this a year or two ago, as Peter Hirschberg, the guy who did the 3D animations for the film, provided some bmps for a 3D project I was working on at the time, and his blog documents the work he did on the film. It played a few festivals around the US and then....nothing. Still waiting to hear about any sort of release.

That is one spectacular head of hair. I get such a kick out of people that I love to hate. There aren't many so I suppose that's why.

Sounds pretty awesome! I gotta check it out! Yes, you do! I've considered myself somewhat of a video game nerd, but Holy Christ! It's a great story. You should really like it.

"I get such a kick out of people that I love to hate. There aren't many so I suppose that's why." Ah... he does make it hate to not enjoy hating him with a burning passion. Of course I'm prone to take such matters to extremes.
