i'll have to say i was pretty much just blown away by this (please, please.. no tommy lee jones references.. if i start thinking about that accent i'll piss my pants.. oh, wait.. i'm not wearing any.. nevermind)
it kinda came out of nowhere with me.. i was expecting just a nice little filler flick to enjoy while i sorted out some papers and whatnot in the office.. but i got a movie that had me glued to the screen..
the story is pretty nice: a support group for zombies who are trying to deal with their new stake in.. um.. life.. but they're being hunted by a militia that thinks all zombies should be killed, regardless of how they're transitioning into society..
it has a 'shatterdead' feel to it, really (if you didn't like 'shatterdead', don't worry.. completely different movies.. but, yeah, i love 'shatterdead').. low-budget but actually conveying a concept within the structure of 'the dead' that isn't normally used in a zombie flick.. i tend to appreciate advancing the idea wherever it happens.. i don't follow a rigid standard of THE DEAD HAVE TO DO SO AND SO or what not.. i feel zombies need more representative personality, as romero first tried to focus on with bub.. well, technically flyboy in 'dawn' but that's another issue..
obviously the zombie 'race' plays a factor in their acceptance (or lack thereof).. which is usually a good addition to draw more of an emotional feel for the characters.. the job hunt scene was really well done..
not much gore until the end (and it's pretty bad but it really doesn't detract from the movie) and pretty much no nudity.. although, for some reason, the camera tends to find its way shooting semi-upskirt shots of angela almost the entire time (perverts, prepare to be teased).. so if those things interest you then you might wanna steer clear..
nice dark-comedy.. very nice indeed.. and i absolutely LOVED the final scene.. exactly what i was hoping for, all the way down to the smile..
well done, well done..
