As a whim purchase from the swap bin at my local bookshop, I picked up a book called Houses by Bentley Little (apparently, it's called The House in the US and was the book Stephen King was reading when he was almost killed by that van as he was taking a stroll, according to one website I just perused searching for more info on Little). I'd never read any of Little's work before this and thought it was pretty good, a little on the formulaic side for a haunted house story in some ways, but also with some nice twists and Little's clearly not afraid to dabble on the perverse side, as I'm sure there's some subject matter most people would find distasteful. It wasn't great, but I think I'd like to try out more of his works, there seems to be a gleam of potential in the bits I liked.
Wondered if anyone else has read this, or what about some other of Little's novels? Like/dislike the author? Any recommendations for further reading?

Most of his books take swims in the formulaic lake and he always dabbles a bit on the perverse side (but he never really pushes it enough, its a safe perversity... in the ones I've read he only plays footsie with taboo and never quite fully embraces it). His earlier books I enjoyed better than the latter ones (I haven't read any of his books since The Return in 2000... he began to bore me.) I do recommend The Revelation and The Summoning. The season 2 MoH episode 'The Washingtonians' is based on one of his short stories.

His books are good for a summer read. I feel, like King, he has trouble wrapping it up.
