I watched the first twenty minutes of The Exorcist III last night, and it was very creepy. I never finished it, but I do plan on it.

You should really finish it. There is one scene that made us scream so loud, woke the neighbors up.

Just wanted to chime in with The Exorcist III love, I think it's a great film, though something of a flawed masterpiece. Don't know where I heard it (think it was a Channel 4 documentary in the UK, perhaps), but I believe there was a lot of interference from the studio, and one of the main changes they insisted on was having the shots of Jason Miller's Karras inserted because they didn't think the audience would "get it" if it wasn't made more explicit and black and white. It was originally intended by Blatty that you only ever see Brad Dourif, so you're never quite sure whether he's just a lunatic, whether it's paranormal etc...something like that, anyway, which left it more open to interpretation, like Pan's Labyrinth or The Orphanage where you can choose to believe the more fantastical explanation or go for the more grounded, skeptical explanation for events, which I think would have been a great approach, would love to see a director's cut of the movie one day... And if you're watching this on a Sunday, why not pair it with The Ninth Configuration for a double-bill...

I can't really say which one is the scariest, but I know I got drawn into Deep Red the first time I watched it, and I had nightmares. Suspiria was also one that creeped me out after I watched it the second time.

Ring easily, but outside of that, Hellraiser for outright scares and Halloween for jump scares.

I know its not a great film but I really enjoyed the grudge remake! Hadnt seen any trailers, I was in a great horror film mood and in the cinema it S***t me up, just the culmination of factors made it great for me although I know its massively floored and a crap remake (although I didnt know at the time)

I've had the Exorcist 3 in my collection for years and for whatever reason never bothered watching it. I read this thread yesterday and finally decided to check it out last night. I'm so glad I did.
I almost feel a little foolish for not watching it sooner.

I almost feel a little foolish for not watching it sooner. As well you should. Now... at the risk of repeating those before me, go see The Ninth Configuration.

Just thought I'd chip in with The Ninth Configuration praise. I'd put that film in my top 50, it's so deep and rewarding. Really fucking funny in parts too.

Oh and scariest? Probably Deliverance for me, then TCM. The Shining gets a nod too.

errr... shoot? no err smelt?, no, maybe Split? ok ok ok..... It SHIT me up and I just put too many *'s in it. I was probably day dreaming about various triple X scenarios and it just slipped in so to speak Your clearly got a keen eye for detail and your right I should be ashamed, not least due to enjoying such a remake! what can I say, long dark haired, angry, jittery, female oriental aparitions scare me! Tale of two sisters scared me with that early scene! No stop being so bolshy and remember I'm the dom in our relationship!!
