Good God its bad!!!!!
A decent idea very very poorly executed! the best bits of the idea are all seen in the trailers (except for maybe one), the rest of the film is incoherent and pointless with endless bad acting and terrible script delivered by characters you really dont care about!
Worst of the M Night Shymalalan films...... (but I havent seen Lady in the water)
XXXXXXXXXXSPOILERSXXXXXXXXXXX
Acting is very bad, Whalberg is the most patronizing human being alive and his girlfriend is an incipid wet 20 something going on 13 yr old. There's no real reason or belief that they even like each other and I could not have cared less about them.
Theres a couple of unsettling images (the falling workers, the people hanging from the trees etc) but they're all in the trailers.
There was no feeling of scale, they should have made more about the cities and done some more effects of the happening as that was the source of the tension and fear, I think it suffered by its 15 certificate.
After the initial concern because of the plants you get two oddly crow-barred in scenes, the death of the two youngsters is just odd and is quickly forgotten about and the scary women (the scariest bit of the film) feels like its from a different movie.
The script is really bad and terribly schmaltzy, lots of whalberg explaining the bloody obvious "I can hear the wind coming in through the window" (in case we didnt know she'd jumped) and the brilliant "it must have just ended"
The actual ending is a complete let down....... The happening... just stopped.
It would have been better if they had made it a worldwide occurence, maybe to reduce the population and bring in an element of trying to survive with a dwindling numbers but no its just a warning! I feel Al Gore might have been involved in the concept meetings!
