Right-o, hands up who likes Fright Night... Hmmm, okay. * wack wack wack* take that and be thankful - your well on your way to recovery. I don't know why people seem to like this film. I thought it was so bland, inept, and lacking in any originality. And so b ooooring. I hated the one-dimensional characters, the laughable villains, the recycled plot....Ahhh! I think Night of the Creeps, or Lost Boys, are far far superior. Maybe I just had an extremely adverse reaction to it, but meh, I'm not going to change my tune. So, who's with me?

I believe I last saw it when I was ten years old, so I can't rightfully vote. I can say that I remember it being pretty damn scary back then.

I love Fright Night, I think it's a great example of an 80s movie, taking the vampire genre (which had, up til then, been more embodied in the kind of Hammer Dracula pictures it fondly spoofs) and updates it to that time, with the OTT rubber effects, the music and the gags. I think it's similar in tone to what Night of the Creeps did for zombie/50s sci-fi flicks, but Dekker's script is the sharper of the two (which again just leaves me wondering what the hell's going on with DVD releases of the film - you'd have thought for all the ideas it ripped off/homaged, Slither would have been an impetus for a revival). Here you had some real kickass, ugly vampires, none of that suave, sophisticated Dracula stuff or peple with white makeup and fangs, which was refreshing. To me, the movie's worth the admission price alone for Chris Sarandon and Roddy McDowall, who both play their parts beautifully tongue-in-cheek, but never winking at the camera or looking like they're just slumming it and picking up a cheque.
I disagree with you about The Lost Boys being the better picture - I think it's great too, but it's virtually all style and no substance, and half the time plays out like an 80s MTV video, complete with smoky images, power ballads and bad mullets.

Sorry messiahknot, had to vote against you. Fright Night is on my top 5 vampire movies of all time. I thought it was very entertaining and the characters were likeable. It really reminded me of the older shows where hosts (kind of like Elvira) would present cheesy horror movies every week, only this was much better.

N ooooooooooooo! lol, I guess its just me and my girlfriend on this side of the fence than. Oh man, I guess I'm in the minority - by a long ways. I seem to dislike it for a lot of the reasons people like it. I just thought it was totally uninspired and stale. Oh well, opinions are a wonderful thing!

So wrong. Dude, Roddy McDowall. How can you not like Peter Vincent, Vampire Killer? And Marcy Darcy was HOT! And the special effects! Sarandon! "You're so cool, Brewster!"
You must hate joy.

Honestly, I love Fright Night. For the decade in which it was filmed, the movie is stylish and boasts a superb cast. Chris Sarandon makes a fine vampire and Roddy MacDowell is terrific as the bumbling "Ghost and Mister Chicken"-like vampire hunter.
Great film!

I love it. The cheesiness of the 80s just makes it even more lovable! Plus I can't get enough of J. Geil's "Fright Night!"
