I just thought I'd post a little poll, I know It will probably come down to either Dawn or Night but i wanted to stick the others up becuase you never know.
Also, I'm aware Diary isn't related to the other films.
Vote away !

I know its the unpopular choice, but mine is Day. I've always loved the film. I know people often dismiss it, insisting its devoid of the intelligence and profoundness of Night and Dawn, but personally think the message is just as strong, and cleverly done too. And not to mention the gore effects and zombie design. They were superb. That opening shot with the zombie with its bottom jaw missing and its tongue lolling around out its throat is one of my favourite horror images. The movie is filled with wonderful horror scenes. Bub polarizes a lot of fans, but personally I though he posed a lot of questions far beyond the obvious. Plus, Riggs is a great (albeit one dimensional to a degree) villain. I read Romero considers it his best film. Day FTW!

Dawn's my favorite. Probably the single best blind buy in my movie watching history.

Granted, Night is his greatest achievement, but Day isn't far behind. The underground setting adds to the claustrophobic feel and leads to some great character development. As you mentioned, the zombie and special effects were lightyears better than the previous two films.

Night Of The Living Dead
Not only the best 'dead' film, it's the best zombie film EVER

This is terribly off-topic, but: Why are Jews so good at Math? Because they have all the answers on their arm. What the hell?

NO love for Dawn? I voted for that one. It's my favorite. I never understood people's love for Dawn. Come on now. You gotta view it in the right context. I didn't like it too much the first time I saw it, either. But, when you disregard the fact that it's a sequel to a great horror film, it becomes a really awesome action flick. Makes a really good double feature with movies like Escape from New York or Cyborg.

I definitely think Day is underappreciated, but I have to go with NOTLD. It's absolutely classic and with good reason. Romero's use of symbolism and themes is great and the movie is just unbelievable. I own Fangoria's 101 Best Movies You've Never Seen, and Day is on the list. I guess a lot of people overlook it in the series because Night and Dawn are so great.

Night Of The Living Dead is arguably the greatest Horror movie ever made, and it's EASILY the best of the Romero Dead series, IMO.
