My mom taught (is that past tense for teach? Please excuse me, I'm drunk.) music at an elementary school for 25 years (she just retired). And my dad is a kick ass guitar player. While I was growing up they had a band. So anyway, I've been around musicians my whole life. I've been playing the guitar for over ten years. I go through phases where I won't play for a few months but I always find myself playing before my callouses disappear. I'm decent but not great. You're pretty lucky to have a musical family. Mine's completely... un-musical. What's your favorite genre to play, or do you dabble in everything?

I love to play Bob Dylan Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell, So, I guess I'm pretty folk-y. That's what I enjoy playing but I also jam out with my clam out to Butthole Surfers, Bad Brains, Fugazi, ZZ Top etc...... If I had to choose one thing to play the rest of my life it would be folk..

Tragically, I do the same... but I don't always find myself playing before the callouses go.... I haven't really played in months, no time recently... God, typing that depressed me.

I think you guys may know this... I'm not the greatest fan of finger picking on bass, but since picking makes the bass sound too high, I'm grudgingly learning how to finger pick properly. Would getting a decent amp mean that I could play songs that are too fast to finger pick like Ramones stuff with a pick and make the sound low like the actual Ramones? Yup. Just crank the bass knob up to 11 and leave the mid and treble low. You'll be rattling windows, even with a pick. Maybe of interest to you: www.rockometer.com/ramones/equipment/snd_bassamps.htmlThanks for the link. I guess the problem is I've only got a 15W practice amp. But I'll save up and get a better one soon.

Sometimes I have a hard time even calling myself a musician because of my laziness. I think if I was truely passionate about it I would play everyday
