I just finished watching Resident Evil:Extinction again and I was wondering whether or not Paul W.S. Anderson was considering possible story lines for a fourth installment of the Resident Evil series. As it turns out, he is. Of course, everything is still in the talking stages, but we may be getting a Resident Evil 4.
My question, then, is: would you look forward to another RE film or do you think Mr. Anderson should stop at 3?
Personally, I would LOVE another RE film, but that's just me. ;D

There's going to be another RE movie anyway... some time this year. It's cgi and called Resident Evil: Degeneration. The trailer is on the RE: Extinction dvd.

Really? That's odd. The info that I have has the title of the newest installment at Resident Evil: Afterlife, although there is no formal deal or storyline at this time. Milla Jovovich has not even been formally signed on as Alice and Anderson has not even formalized a deal with Bolt, yet, although they are in the talking stages. If an agreement is reached, then Anderson hopes to begin filming in November or December 2008 with an expected release date of mid-2009. I have ordered my copy of Resident Evil:Extinction, so I'll be checking out the trailer you mentioned. By the way....are you looking forward to another RE film?

Hey, I'd have no problem with another sequel. The third one wasn't all that great, but it was still entertaining. I'm not the kind of person that gets upset when movies have tons of sequels or stuff gets remade. My theory is that the more movies that get created, the more of a choice we have in what we see. I don't feel like sequels or remakes taint the originals, no matter how bad they are. If people don't like them, they can always avoid them. The only problem I EVER have with movies getting created is that series of movies from those two idiots who made Date Movie, Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans, and now Disaster Movie. I would love to kill those two stupid fucking assholes for the terrible excuses for films that they release.

I have to agree with you on that...I have never been a fan of rip-off movies (that's what I call them ;D). I guess that's why I never really got into the Scary Movie series, although my hubby is quite the fan.

I love a good parody... but those damn "movies" of Friedberg and Seltzer are just rip-offs. When the only jokes you have are directly ripped out of something else, and than you explain where it originally came from.... argh. Hate thems, we do, hates them so much. That said I do love Police Squad, Airplane, and dozens of true parodies... don't know why they make me laugh...

That guy can make anybody laugh.

Can't say as I consider this good news, I thought even the first one was lame and just got worse from there, ridiculous plots, bad CGI monsters, non-existent character.
In fact, I've yet to see a translation to screen of a computer game that actually works; videogames are interactive, that's what makes them entertaining, and even those that have more in-depth storylines depend on breaks in the narrative to make way for that interactivity (not to mention the plots tend to be convoluted and far thinner if you took the element of actually playing the game out of it). When someone then tries to make a film of it, you have to put in enough nods to the game to make fans happy and so upon losing the interactive elements, you lose what bound the narrative together and then they try to fill in the blanks, so it doesn't have a cohesive structure for the plot, and also things like characterisation are pretty much non-existent in computer games, which is why they often come off as depthless caricatures in their celluloid counterparts.

Excellent post, Question. I guess that's why I like the Resident Evil series so much. I'm not a gamer; in fact, I haven't played any video games since the days of the original Donkey Kong. Therefore, I have no standards by which to judge the films in question. I just go into the theater expecting to have fun and maybe even be mildly scared from time to time. Or, at the very least, be entertained by some awesome action scenes. In the case of Resident Evil and it's successors, I have yet to be disappointed.
