You know what I'm talking about here....it's the horror movie that you simply can't get enough of. It makes you shudder, cringe, scream, jump, and hide in fear no matter how many times you watch it. It is horror at it's finest and you consider it the very best horror film ever made.
For me, the film that holds that lofty title is... *drum roll, please* ;D
Viy (1967)
So...what about all of you? Which film would you give the honor of "Best Horror Film Ever Made" to?

Every good horror board needs a "Best Horror Film" thread. I'll stick with my all-time favorite, Halloween. Cliché, i know, but it's a great movie technically, plus it has an incredible nostalgia factor (for me,at least).

It is one of the very first horror films that my mother would actually allow me to watch. I loved it then and I love it now. Good choice!

I've gotta go with A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, although I know it's not really the best, just my favorite.

Gonna have to side with good old Halloween 78. That certainly is a good choice, buntcakepan. The original Halloween certainly set the standard for the slasher sub-genre and is one of my favorites, as well.

My favorite horror is The Omen. The 1976 version of course. I loved it as a kid and I still love it.
The four best made horrors ever ( they are horrors for the purpose of this post) are, in no particular order...
Jaws Psycho Rosemary's Baby Alien

Those are all excellent choices, NBYD. You know, years ago before the film version came out, I read the novel The Omen. I was so scared after I read it that it took me almost 20 years to work up enough nerve to watch the movie. Anyway, excellent choices.

I don't know if it makes me cringe or jump each time I watch it, or even if I would consider it the finest horror film ever made, but I would have to give a mention to Jaws. It's my most viewed film and the one that has probably made the strongest impact on me.

Well that certainly is a good choice, Tara Ntula. I think my favorite part of the film is when Quint is describing his experiences after the USS Indianapolis sank. His recounting of the shark attacks on his fellow shipmates was both enthralling and heart-wrenching. Every time I see that scene, I am positively glued to the TV. IMO, Robert Shaw was a damned fine actor and he played the role of Quint superbly.
