Talk about horror. I'm at almost 24 hours without cigarettes using the patch. Tried to quit cold turkey Saturday; wasn't happening. Anyone have any suggestions?

Ah, smoking. You take all my money and what do I get in return? Shortness of breath and lots of lung butter, that's what.
This is gonna sound cliche, but you have to want to quit. Straight up. You have to get it in your mind that quiting will be the best thing in the world for you. Think of the money you spend. Think of the things you could buy with that money. Think of the things you'd rather be doing than smoking. Think of the time each pack is taking off of your life. If you smoke, you are going to die a slow and very painful death. It's true.
I smoked a pack a day(two if I was drinking) for almost 5 years and I quit cold turkey about a year ago (but now I'm addicted to ham!) after my dad had a quadruple bipass at the age of 52. He had been smoking since he was 17. That shit scared the ever lovin' Bejesus outta me. Haven't had an urge to smoke since that day.
Be strong, man.

I have been eating a lot of ham today now that I think of it. I definitely want to quit; I've tried quitting before, but I was never really serious about it. I figured now would be a good time because I just started working at a place where no one smokes, which makes it awkward to take a cigarette break. Before, I was working from home, so I had the freedom to smoke whenever the hell I felt like. For now, I just hope I can get through The Dark Knight on Friday without wringing a teeny bopper's neck.

I love to smoke... I love it. But I don't do it often. Never had a nic-fit, never needed to use a substitute to help me through without them.
But I wish you luck and strength on quiting. Find something to do with your hands, like a puzzle or woodworking, I know that helps alot, apparently so does (or so I've been told) brushing your teeth... oral fixations I guess.

I made it through my formative years without getting involved with cigarettes, fortunately. Both my dad and my mom's boyfriend quit cold turkey and they've kept it up for some time. You just really have to give yourself a reason to quit. If you have a wife, quit for her. If you have kids, quit for them. Best of luck to you, sir.

To paraphrase Twain: quitting is easy, I've done it a million times. Some times are more successful than others. The last time was pretty unsuccessful. There's always something that happens that makes me need a smoke. Then I go and buy a pack of smokes, like an idiot.
