It sucked. It wasn't funny, gory, or scary. And the more that I see people say that they loved it makes me hate it even more.
They gave up the premise that made it original in the third act and turned it into a run of the mill shitty slasher.
Fuck this movie.

It was hysterical how they poked fun at all of the slasher cliches. The part where he did the "now you see me, now you don't" routine was pretty funny. I loved how the movie took an approach where the people behind it were able to have fun with the slasher genre, but they also showed an appreciation for it as well.

Have you listened to the commentary? I loved it. Probably better than the movie, but I just like hearing Angela talk...

I recently saw this one, too. I really like it. Both funny and thrilling. Great original movie. I think it's what Scream should have been.

Scream was more of a slasher satire that could be taken seriously as a horror film. Behind the Mask was a spoof of the slasher genre that took on a less serious tone. I don't think you can really compare the two. On an argument of which is the better movie though I'd have to say Scream without a doubt.

But, I did think Behind the Mask had a few genuinely chilling moments. Like when the lights in the house go out right on time. You know some wicked shit is going to happen. I like how they were all laughing at Leslie's antics before and then it all of a sudden turns serious. I don't know, I just liked the overall movie. It's got good re-watchability as well.

Fuck me. I was in college when the first one came out. I was big into horror and metal music (wow, have I ever evolved!) and everyone assumed I was loving Scream. Christ no. By the time I watched it, I was amazed at the love it received. It was ok. Decent. But the love it was getting blew me away. Then the sequels came out. Fuck. Each one was worse then the previous installment. And the copycats came out. It seemed like big tittied girls who wouldn't show the goods were running around everywhere with Joe Sixpack and being chased by a guy with a hook. Scream fucked up mainstream horror movies for a long time. Thankfully, I was always more interested in the straight to DVD or under the radar flicks...

I feel sorry for you two... Just kidding, to each his own. Anyway, I don't hold Scream responsible for the problems with modern mainstream horror. Even though I really liked the movie, Saw is one of the movies that I think did it. While the movie was interesting and unique (which I'm sure others will disagree on), it spawned a billion movies since that place an emphasis on violence over story. Now, there's no problem with violence in horror, but at least try and do something else with your film. On a different subject, Saw and movies like The Sixth Sense made others think it was all right to create pointless movies as long as there's some kind of a twist at the end. Those movies were great, but the empty stories that have been created since with a twist thrown on the ending are irritating. Another problem with mainstream horror is the emergence of PG-13 teenybopper films and the ridiculous amount of remakes. This I blame on movies like The Grudge and The Ring that stole stories straight out of Japan and showed us how much more money films can make with a PG-13 rating and a good-looking cast. It also provided studios with a way to take the easy way out in terms of having to come up with a completely unique ideas.

I hate that far too many movies think a twist ending is the way to go. I've watched far too many flicks where the ending rolls around and they twist it up just for the sake of having a twist.

Definately a good one, I still think that near the end it kind of just becomes your typical slasher flick and loses some points.

I really liked the bit where the older mentor couple were talking about running and laughing, and the woman says "Oh I ran fast didnt I", implying she was once a victim,I dont know why,but I liked the thought of that, her being such a good "final girl" that he settled down with her.

Yeah, that may have been my favorite scene in the whole movie. When he was talking about the slashers from when he was active, compared to the new breed...that was a riot.
