Personally I have a liking for movies with sci-fi/fantasy leanings after horror, and I was musing that my preference in horror movies is more inclined to the imaginative too - monster movies, vampires, werewolves, that type of thing - rather than, for instance, slasher movies which are generally more "realistic". Obviously that's given to exception, I'd never put a hammy monster movie over The Wicker Man, for example, a great picture's a great picture.
To me, a slasher flick has to be really well done, it has to get me involved with the characters and some craftsmanship in the direction to ratchet up the tension at the appropriate opportunities. So classics like Psycho and Halloween will engage me (and for two recent examples Inside and Haute Tension, til the sucky endings, [moreso the latter]), but any cheap "rack up the teen body count" stuff will just borderline amuse me for its duration, dependent on the creativity and effects used in the deaths scenes, otherwise I just find them rudimentary and lacking.
So what about you guys,do you have a favourite genre after horror/exploitation? If so, do you find any common elements to perhaps a particular subgenre of horror you have a liking for?

Probably surrealism/arthouse type films.

Besides horror, my favorite genres include Sci-Fi, action/adventure, and thriller. I'm an "atmosphere nut" meaning that I love films that provide a tense, claustrophobic atmosphere. I also like a challenge, especially in those whodunit films. I hate it when I figure things out too quickly. I suppose that's why I liked The Mist so much. Even though I hated the ending, it was one that I didn't see coming.

I used to say comedy, but over the last 6-9 months that has switched to documentaries.

I used to love comedy, but as I got older I became more fond of arthouse and drama films. I also like epics (if that's a genre); Spartacus (1960) is my favorite movie of all-time.
