So, I decided to be fair and give it a rent at Blockbuster after I watched a poor quality of it. Well, it turns out the better the quality is, the better I see what a piece of crap this is. The movie started out very well, IMO. They setted it up great and I liked knowing about how they do their jobs (like when she found out about the guy who was hacking her account - I thought that was pretty cool) , but then as the film went on, it started to get more and more stupid by the minute. There were so many "Couldn't they have done this?" moments. It tries to be a smart thriller, but it really is not. Diane Lane does another great job acting, but it's so sad seeing her in such a crappy movie. The torture scenes were pretty decent and a few made me squirm, but that's about it. I remember when I looked on the back of the DVD to see how long the runtime was. To my surprise, it was only 101 minutes and I thought, "Wow, I thought this movie would be around 2 hours or so." Well, it might not have been 2 hours but it sure did feel like it. Just like Vantage Point, seeing this on a high-definition flat screen made me realize how terrible these two films are. They both had the same problem: Started out great, but got worse and worse and worse as it progressed. All in all, I give it a 4/10. Opinions on this?

I thought it was incredibly unrealistic. They knew the IP was in a specific area, so they knew the provider. Lives were at stake. Why not just find the server that was getting 20 million hits and shut it down...
At least it had some cool deaths.

Why not just find the server that was getting 20 million hits and shut it down.... I hadn't seen it but heard the premise. And it sounds totally unrealistic. If users were accessing the site with a URL they just would have gone to IANA an had DNS shut down for the site. And of course the net is über-traceable, everything needs an IP and IP addresses are all accountable. Sure, someone could slow things up a bit by going through multiple proxies, but just try streaming video to multiple users that way.

Untraceable is one of those movies that I can't really say anything bad about, but I can't say much good either. It's just pretty dull and mediocre. It's your run-of-the-mill crime thriller with nothing overly unique about it. The killer executing people live over the internet was a pretty cool idea, but it was executed poorly. It seemed like the film was unintentionally crossing genres. The execution led me to believe it was a thriller, but the excess gore didn't really fit the film well.
