In our defence, we only use them to prop up the short legs on furniture, wouldn't dream of reading the things - disgusting, filthy habit that it is. Whadda we look like, a pack o' nerds or something?

I like books. I'm reading Cell, by Stephen King. I think Count would like it. The horror starts like ten pages in. And it's bloody. But if it's not horror, it's dirt pushing.

Cell reminded me a lot of 28 Days Later with some leftover ideas of civilisation's end from King's earlier (and better, IMO), The Stand. I can't say I've been convinced King still "has it" by the last few books of his I've read (in fact, Lisey's Story almost had me believing he's handed over the reins to either his wife or ghostwriters but still getting published in his name), and although I found some enjoyable moments to Cell it was just a bit too much like he'd sat up one morning, thought "I really ought to do a zombie book" and gone through Romero's back catalogue and some modern takes on it, like 28 Days..., for inspiration.

It is worse than The Stand, but it's hard to live up to a Fantasy masterpeice using a modern setting. The Stand is timeless, while Cell will become dated. But over both, I prefer Salem's Lot.

Great choice, probably my favourite King novel! I love his take on a modern-day Dracula, and re-read it recently, actually. Was nice to see the "lore" of his vampires and Father Callahan make a reappearance in his Dark Tower cycle too.

Y'all are even debating what book is better? Y'all are gayer than I thought.

I found that Cell went downhill fast. I liked Lisey's Story. The recent work has been a hodge-podge, though.
